MANAGING VIRTUAL TEAMS

In order to successfully manage a virtual team, don't forget: Even managers who excel at face-to-face teambuilding can find themselves frustrated when faced with a virtual team. However, in fostering strong team dynamics in teams that meet in person is fast becoming a critical skill.

To do this, ask yourself:

  • Do I include my team in project planning, give timely feedback and immediate updates and demonstrate the importance of communication when I lead a virtual team?
  • Knowing how important communication is for the success of a virtual team, am I trying to personally connect with my team members when I am unable to see them daily?
  • Just because I am unable to congratulate my team members by taking them out to lunch, do I still acknowledge and celebrate the team's accomplishments whenever possible and appropriate?
