Understanding
the nuances and practical applications of 21 CFR 210-211
is difficult and tiresome. GMPWorks from The Learning
Key can develop a culture that gets all employees thinking
in terms of good manufacturing practices while eliminating
some of the drudgery. GMPWorks is a board game for up
to 16 people that helps employees develop an understanding
of the purpose and importance of GMPs and teaches the
basic elements of compliance. For managers, the game can
be played to develop an understanding of all the elements
of GMPs. Shop floor employees who only deal with a particular
subpart of 21 CFR 210-211, such as packaging and labeling
control, don't have to delve into organization and personnel
regulations.
To
make it clear that GMPs are never a crap shoot, the game
doesn't include dice. "We didn't want even the subtle
message to come out that GMPs are a game of chance,"
says Elizabeth Treher, CEO of The Learning Key. "The
game cards themselves tell you to move."
GMPWorks,
which costs $2,500, includes the game board, trainer guide,
travel carrying case, and three different types of game
cards: question, bonus and notice of deficiency. Notices
of deficiency are, of course, the penalty cards. One reads:
"Senior management was not trained in CGMP regulations.
Go back two spaces to deliver training." Compared
with the real world consequence of having an ill-equipped
management team, this game lets you off easy (www.thelearningkey.com).
