TEAM SKILL FOUNDATIONS: STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE LISTENING
In order to listen effectively and remember what is being said, don’t forget the five strategies for effective listening. They are: preparation, concentration, summarizing, asking questions, listening between the lines, and making associations.
To do this, ask yourself:
- When someone is talking, do I concentrate on the information presented to convert items from short-term to long-term memory?
- In a conversation, do I reinforce what is being said by asking questions to truly comprehend the actual intended meaning?
- Do I automatically try to find associations with things that I already know, making it easier to remember what is being said?
