SIMULATIONS |
|
|
Although simulations have many definitions, a common element is learning through experience. Research shows that without hands-on and “heads-on” learning, even simulations can fail to improve skills or knowledge. Generally simulations place participants into roles in virtual environments where they gain experience and learn by problem solving and decision making. Expert facilitation at multiple points during longer simulations helps participants translate their experiences and apply their learning more quickly. We build simulations into many of our training programs. Some are sold for use by independent or corporate trainers.

The House That Cards Built
The House That Cards Built is a change management simulation useful either as a stand-alone simulation or incorporated into a workshop. It uses only playing cards and paper and illustrates important components of change in less than 30 minutes. The simulation is appropriate for groups of 16 to 40 participants, including executives, managers, supervisors, non-supervisors, support staff, and technical staff.
Participants experience the dynamics of a workplace change and the common emotional stages of change such as denial, anger, bargaining, and acceptance. In addition participants explore common reactions to change such as engagement and disengagement, competition, conflict, problem solving, and time pressures.
